How it came to befounded 1889 · where the name comes from · 4 dated events

Founded by brothers Reuben and Ephraim Basehor, of Pennsylvania Dutch descent, who came to Kansas in 1854. Ephraim had bought 160 acres in 1874; when the railroad was completed in 1889 he platted his land and began building the townsite, which was dedicated on 30 November 1889. It was a farming community. source

The housing stockmedian built 2019

The median home sold here was built in 2019. Most of what sells was built between 1988 and 2025. The Census puts the median year built for all housing at 2004, so the homes changing hands skew newer than the stock as a whole. 64% of sales included finished basement space beyond the above-grade footprint - which matters here, because square footage quoted above grade can understate a house considerably.

By property type, sales broke down as Single Family (245), Patio/Villa (24), Townhouse (18), Half Duplex (1).

Getting around
The city's own 2026 legislative priorities document states that Basehor has access to US-24 / US-40 Highway and K-7 Highway, and asks the Kansas legislature for funding for safety improvements to both - so both are state-operated routes serving the city rather than distant connections. The Kansas Department of Transportation has separately worked with the city on lowering the speed limit along US 24/40 through Basehor. The railroad that created the town in 1889 was built by the Leavenworth, Pawnee and Western Railroad Company. source 1 source 2
