Grandview, MO

Grew out of a farming settlement known as the Anderson District, named for John Anderson, who kept the only general store in the area. Incorporated as a city on 6 February 1912 with 410 residents, and became a Kansas City Southern rail terminal the same year. source

The name. Named for the view from the elevated townsite - the city's account credits Anderson, Young and their friend Ervin Wallingford with declaring it a grand view. The Truman farm at Grandview - and the folk version is worth correcting. It was not Harry Truman's farm. It belonged to his maternal grandparents, Solomon and Harriet Louisa Young, who laid claim to an initial 80 acres in 1844 and eventually held a much larger holding. The surviving 5.26-acre remnant of what the Park Service describes as the 600-acre farm is the Grandview unit of Harry S Truman National Historic Site, at 12301 Blue Ridge Extension.
