Raymore did not exist as a town until after the Civil War, when the railroad reached the area in 1872; the Raymore post office has operated since that year, first established in the home of Dr. L.F. Gray, the town's first physician and postmaster, in 1871. The first school was established in a teacher's home in 1876. source

- Interstate 49 (the former US-71) runs along the west side of the city and is the main route to downtown Kansas City; Missouri Route 58 is the east-west highway. Interstate 35 is not far to the west. The Kansas City, Clinton and Springfield railroad that created the town ran through what is now the Original Town area at T.B. Hanna Station. source
