The city exists because of the lake. E. C. Thompson began acquiring land in the Rush Creek valley in 1924; Thompson and Glenn Weatherby built a dam there, completed in 1937, impounding a 274-acre lake. The surrounding development was originally the Lakeview Subdivision. source 1 source 2

W.L.I.C. is a separate entity from the City of Weatherby Lake and has no role in roads, sewers, parks, traffic, building permits or vehicle registration - those are the city's.
